Sports Injury

Sports can be very taxing on your body, no matter what you play. Our trusted staff will work with you to get to the root of your problem and help you feel better again. We help treat and also prevent injuries in the neck, back, shoulders, knees, and ankles. We are able to manually adjust your spine, relieving any pain that you are feeling. This will allow your body to function much better after the injury.

How This Works

What sports injury treatment involves

Sports can be very taxing on the body, whatever you play. Treatment starts by getting to the root of the problem — which tissue is injured, what stage of healing it is at, and what in your training, technique or movement pattern loaded it that way.

From there the work is staged: settle the injured tissue, restore range and strength, then rebuild the specific capacity your sport demands — speed, change of direction, landing, throwing. The same assessment is used both to treat the current injury and to address injuries in the neck, back, shoulders, knees and ankles before they recur.

What to Expect

Your visits, step by step

Finding the root of the problem

Your therapist assesses the injured area and the movement pattern behind it, including your training load and what you were doing when it happened.

Hands-on treatment

Manual treatment is used to settle the area and restore movement. Where it is appropriate, spinal manipulation may be part of that, which allows the body to function better after the injury.

Rebuilding capacity

Strength, flexibility and agility work is progressed deliberately, along with coordination of body parts and motion, to prepare you to return to full participation.

Return to sport and prevention

The final stage targets the specific demands of your sport, and the same work is used to address the pattern that produced the injury in the first place.

Benefits

What sports injury treatment is used for

  • Used to address sports injuries of the neck, back, shoulders, knees and ankles.
  • Used both to treat current injuries and to address the mechanics associated with recurrence.
  • Applied to rebuild strength, flexibility, agility and coordination ahead of a return to full participation.
  • Directed at the root of the problem rather than at the painful area alone.

Results of an injury vary from person to person. What is appropriate for you is decided at your evaluation — call (718) 714-6995 and we can talk it through.

Common Questions

Sports Injury FAQs

When can I go back to playing?

That depends on the tissue involved, the stage of healing and what your sport demands, so there is no honest fixed answer. Your therapist will explain the stages and what has to be true before you progress to each one.

Can I keep training while I am being treated?

Often yes, with modification. What to keep, what to change and what to pause is worked out individually — the aim is usually to maintain as much as safely possible rather than to stop everything.

Do you treat injuries that are not from an obvious single incident?

Yes. A lot of sporting problems build up gradually from training load and movement pattern rather than one moment, and the assessment is designed to find that.

What should I bring?

Your training shoes and, if it is relevant, your kit or equipment. Being able to see how you move in what you actually train in is useful.
